How to combine PDF files on iPhone
Put the PDFs in the same folder in the Files app, tap the More button (•••), tap Select and select the files. Then tap the More button at the bottom right and tap Create PDF. Your iPhone combines them into one new PDF, for free, and leaves the originals as they are. Below: the steps, how to choose the order of the files, and how to add just a few pages from another PDF.
With the Files app (built in)
- Open the Files app and put the PDFs in one folder, such as On My iPhone. To move a file there, touch and hold it and tap Move.
- Tap the More button (•••), tap Select, and tap the PDFs you want to combine.
- Tap the More button at the bottom right and tap Create PDF.
- The new PDF lands in the same folder, next to the originals. Touch and hold it and tap Rename to give it a proper name.
Photos and scans can go in the same PDF: select them along with the PDFs.
Files doesn't let you choose the order of the files. Open the new PDF and check it before you send it. If the order is wrong, use the next method.
In the order you want, with Udfyld
Udfyld is an iPhone app for PDFs. It combines PDFs on your iPhone without uploading them, and you set the order first.
- Open Udfyld and tap Merge files.
- Choose the PDFs. To add more, tap Add files….
- Drag ≡ to put the files in order. Tap the red minus button to take a file out again.
- Tap Merge. Udfyld saves the new PDF in the Udfyld folder in Files (On My iPhone) and opens it.
Just a few pages from another PDF
Sometimes you only need one page from the other file, such as a signed page or a receipt. In Udfyld:
- Open the PDF that should get the pages and tap Pages.
- Tap Add pages, then From Files…, and choose the other PDF. Its pages go in at the end.
- Drag the pages into place. Tap the pages you don't need and tap Delete.
A photo from Photos or a blank page goes in the same way.
Too big to email?
Several scanned PDFs together quickly get too big for email. Text takes up almost no room; it's the scans and photos that weigh. Compress in Udfyld makes scanned pages smaller and never turns text into pictures.
